How to Make a Paper Tepee

    • 1). Gather the twigs together in your hand and gently tap them on your work surface so that the bottoms of the twigs are level.

    • 2). Wrap a 12-inch length of twine around the twigs about 3 inches down from their tops. Tie the twine in a knot and trim the excess. Leave enough slack so that you can adjust the twigs outward to make them stand in the tepee shape.

    • 3). Adjust the twigs so that they are in the shape of the tepee frame. The twigs will stand on their own when they are adjusted into a square shape, evenly spaced from one another.

    • 4). Lay the twig structure on its side on a piece of paper. Trace with a pencil the triangular outline that the side of the tepee structure makes.

    • 5). Cut the outline out from the paper with scissors to make a triangular stencil.

    • 6). Cut open a brown paper grocery bag with scissors so that it lies flat like a large piece of paper.

    • 7). Trace the shape of the triangular stencil on the brown paper. Flip the stencil over along one of its long edges and trace the stencil again. Do this two more times to form an outline of the tepee cover on the paper.

    • 8). Cut the tepee cover from the brown grocery bag with scissors. Cut a small arch in the center of one of the tepee cover's sides to form a doorway.

    • 9). Paint designs such as zig-zag lines, nature-inspired forms or animals onto your tepee cover. Let the paint dry completely.

    • 10

Fold the tepee cover along the lines you drew to create creases.

    • 11

Wrap the tepee cover around the twig frame. One twig should sit inside each corner created by the folds along the lines.

    • 12

Tape the tepee cover to each twig from inside the structure to hold it in place on the frame.
