Get on a Roll in the New Year - Observation Gives You Direction
For things to be different, you'll have to be different.
Winners get on a ROLL and have winning streaks and this is what separates those who achieve from those who do not.
Achievers have goals, build on one success after another, and reach their predetermined destination.
Non-achievers rarely set goals.
They are guided only by what has most recently happened and respond rather than act proactively.
ROLL is an acronym (Read, Observe, Listen, Love) and it is your map to get you from where you are to where you want to be.
Previously we discussed how your winning streak begins with a reading plan.
Now that you've started to ROLL, the next step is to observe.
Observation is perhaps the most used, yet most under utilized form of personal growth.
You are observing things all the time.
Your eyes give you sight, your mind gives you insight.
You gain insight to the achievement you desire by combining what you see with what your mind tells you about what you see.
Your eyes see everything.
From the smallest detail to our peripheral vision, your eyes bring into your mind limitless information.
Your mind focuses on what the fovea (a small region of the retina) processes.
Insight is the combination of what you actually see, what the fovea focuses on, and what your mind interprets from previous experiences and beliefs.
In essence, your mind sees what it wants to see.
For you to observe with purpose, you'll need to put aside what you do not want to see and focus upon what you do want to see.
This means that you'll need to spend time working on your attitude.
Set aside any doubt as to your ability to achieve what you want and focus only on what you wish to achieve.
Let's see how this works through example.
Let's say your goal is to buy a boat.
Somewhere you decided you wanted a boat by observing.
Perhaps someone you know has a boat, or you visited the lake last summer and saw a boat you wanted.
Perhaps your children want a boat.
Somewhere you observed something that tied back to wanting a boat.
Now you have set your goal and you've chosen the model and timeline to achieve the goal.
You've picked up a boating magazine and your reading plan includes learning more about boating.
Now focus your observation.
Go to the dealership and get a good look at your boat.
Pick up brochures, walk around your boat, climb in and really observe your boat.
Sit behind the wheel and imagine driving your boat.
It is your boat.
Subscribe to Boating Magazine.
Join a boating club and observe boaters.
Take a boating class.
Remember, it is your boat.
You are observing and experiencing boat ownership.
Getting the boat is an inevitable conclusion of your observation.
Experts tell us that your mind has no ability to distinguish between what has actually happened and what has been imagined.
To the mind every insight is real.
Children possess the ability to utilize the imagined to bring about real results.
A young boy envisions hitting the game winning jump shot.
Day after day he practices, imagining the scenario where he will have the opportunity to win the game.
Then, as if by some supernatural circumstance, he finds himself in the situation he has "seen" in his mind countless times.
Is it any wonder he succeeds and sinks the basket? World-class coaches and superstar athletes use visualization to lead to amazing results.
If you want to be a superstar in your life you should visualize as well.
Using a combination of observation and visualization, you can convince your mind that you have already achieved everything you desire.
Then your mind will go to work to put you in position to fulfill what the mind believes.
If you desire something in your life observing others who have achieved it is not enough.
You must, through the power of visualization, observe yourself experiencing that which you want.
Use observation and visualization to see yourself achieving all you desire and your mind will go to work to fulfill your observed vision.
