Capture the essence of your kitchen's design in the entryway. As the passage to the kitchen, the entry can also display design elements repeated in the kitchen to set the stage for what is to come. The entry can seamlessly disappear within the walls to highlight the kitchen as it opens up to the onlooker, or it can display continuity with the architectural details of the kitchen space that lies ahead. Examine the elements that you can work with to design the look and style of your kitchen entry.

    Simplicity in Design

    • The design statement of the kitchen's entry can be no statement at all. Allow the entryway to blend into the wall by keeping its design minimal and simple. Do not even use contrasting paint to indicate that an entryway is there. A simple entry works with any kitchen design much like a neutral color tone works in a room with many colorful accents; it highlights the showcased kitchen design as it opens up to the room without obstructing it or distracting from it.

    Painted Accents

    • Decorative painted accents can highlight the entry to the kitchen. Border the doorway with painted motifs repeated in the kitchen design, or accent the architectural features of the entryway with contrasting and complementing paint colors. For simple entryways, paint the inside of the door frame along the two sides and above using an accent color found in the kitchen. This splash of color in the kitchen entry adds a touch of drama to the space and gives it a refreshing feel.

    Wood Accents

    • Pick up the ornate and decorative trim molding incorporated into the kitchen design, and repeat them around the kitchen entry, which is another way to tie the entry into the design theme of the kitchen, and if the design is carried into the adjoining dining area or great room, the entry then becomes a seamless decorative extension of the entire space.

Install the wood trim around the frame of the door, or create architectural designs with the wood trim, such as installing the trim just above the entryway or adding several strips of trim on both sides of the kitchen entry.

    Kitchen Entry Tiles

    • Your kitchen's tile work design may work well around the kitchen entryway. Install tiles around the entry to mimic the outline of a geometric doorway arch. Use colorful handmade tiles to bring out a Southwestern theme, earthen-toned tiles for a Tuscany feel and clear and colored glass tiles to enhance a contemporary kitchen design.
