How to Tie Checkerboard High Top Shoe Laces
- 1). Fold one shoelace in half to find the middle.
- 2). Feed the left end of the shoelace down through the bottom left hole of one shoe, keeping the center of the shoelace centered between the left and right bottom shoelace holes.
- 3). Feed the right end of the shoelace down through the bottom right hole of the shoe, again keeping the center of the lace centered between the bottom two holes of the shoe.
- 4). Pull the left lace up through the very top hole on the left side, skipping all the holes in between with the lace on the inside of the shoe. (Reference 1)
- 5). Pull the right end of the shoelace up through the second hole on the right side.
- 6). Pass the shoelace across the shoe and pull down through the second hole on the left side.
- 7). Pull the shoelace under the shoe up through the third hole on the left side.
- 8). Pull the shoelace over the tongue of the shoe and pull it down through the third hole on the right.
- 9). Alternate sides and continue to pass the shoelace up one hole and across the other side until you reach the final hole.

Adjust laces so the ends are even at the top. - 1). Thread the second lace under the right side of the lace between the bottom two holes and pull through, leaving an inch or so of lace free at the bottom.
- 2). Pass the shoelace over the lace between the second two holes, keeping the lace vertical and perpendicular to the first lace.
- 3). Pass the shoelace under the third row of laces and continue passing the shoelace over and under until you reach the last lace, ending with the shoelace passing over the top row of laces.
- 4). Fold the second shoelace over the top row of the first lace, pulling it under the top lace and pointing the end of the shoelace toward the bottom of the shoe.
- 5). Pull the second shoelace over the second row from the top and continue threading the second lace. Alternate threading under and over the laces until you reach the bottom row again. Keep the shoelace perpendicular to the first lace.
- 6). Continue threading shoelaces up and down the shoe, keeping the over-and-under pattern and moving toward the left until you reach the left edge of the shoe.
- 7). Tuck the free ends of the shoelaces into the shoe.
- 8). Repeat both lacing methods on the other shoe.
