Mulberry Tree Description
- The red mulberry grows to heights close to 60 feet; the white version makes it to about 40 feet tall. Both have crowns that spread as wide as they are tall. The leaves are up to 5 inches long and as wide as 3 inches.
- The leaves of a mulberry tree can have many different shapes, even on the same tree. Some are simply oblong while others possess lobes, with some having multiple lobes and resembling winter mittens.
- The upper surface of a red mulberry leaf feels rough when touched but the white mulberry's feels much smoother.
- The fruit of the red mulberry is a reddish-black color and a little over an inch in length. White mulberry trees have a much lighter, almost white, fruit that is purplish before it ripens.
- Mulberry tree bark has a gold-brown shade to it and the mature trees develop a bark that contains numerous fissures and ridges.
