How to Make Rodent Snares

    • 1). Tie a small loop in one end of a 24-inch piece of string. The loop only needs to be large enough that the string fits through it.

    • 2). Thread the free end of the string through the small loop. The larger loop is called the snare loop.

    • 3). Locate an area through which rodents regularly travel. This could range from a small trail in a wood pile to a small hole where rodents get underneath your house.

    • 4). Place two forked sticks in the ground on each side of the area through which rodents scurry.

    • 5). Pull the free end of the string so the snare loop is 2 to 3 inches in diameter. Position the snare loop between the two sticks, using the forks to hang the loop.

    • 6). Tie the free end of the string to a solid object or a stake. If you tie it to a stake, hammer the stake into the ground.

    • 7). Place bait like cheese, nuts or peanut butter on either side of the snare loop.

    • 8). Check the trap once per day.
