How to Find a Kill Spot for Hog Hunting

    Front Shoulder

    • 1). Patience is very important when placing a kill shot into a wild hog. Wait until the hog turns broadside to you. The kill zone on a hog is very small and a full view of the front shoulder will give you a wider area to place your shot.

    • 2). Locate the hog's front shoulder in your scope or sights.

    • 3). The kill zone is the size of a paper plate. Imagine a paper plate placed on the middle of the neck starting about two inches below the ear. This plate would cover the back part of the neck and half of the front shoulder. The heart and lungs are located in between the front shoulders. A shot into this paper-plate-sized area will likely stop a hog in his tracks.

    Spine

    • 1). Locate the spine in your scope. The spine is located within the same kill zone as the heart and lungs. The spine attaches to the base of the skull just in front of the shoulder, right in the middle of the neck.

    • 2). Place your shot in the middle of the neck halfway in between the back of the ear and the front shoulder.

    • 3). Another spinal shot can be located just above the front shoulder. The spine takes a big dip just in front of the shoulder. It does not run across the top of the back, as most people believe. A shot placed approximately three inches above the front shoulder will hit the spine and drop the hog.
