How to Hog Hunt With Catch Dogs
- 1). Suit you dogs in armor to help protect them from the fierce hogs. Specialized hog hunting websites and some outdoor supply companies sell this armor.
- 2). Hunt in areas of known hog activity. Use your bay dogs to help track hogs. When they become excited at finding a fresh track, release them to locate the hog. Their job is to find and "bay" the hog, keeping him cornered until the hunter and catch dogs arrive. Move toward their barking, which is another part of their job in signaling their location.
- 3). Release the catch dogs, who will latch onto the hog and immobilize it, so you can get close to the hog.
- 4). Pierce the hog through the rib cage, into vital organs, to bring it down quickly. Use your spear or knife. It is generally considered "weak" to use a distance weapon when hunting hogs, so you shouldn't throw the spear.
