Patrick (real name Maewyn Succat) was the patron saint of Ireland.
He was the son of Calpornius, who served as the deacon of the town of Bannavern Taburniae.
St.
Patrick came from a rich family so he never had struggles while growing up.
In fact, the young St.
Patrick grew up to be a wild Youngman, who "did not know the true God.
" He grew up wanting to be independent and oftentimes wandered away from the group.
This made him an easy target of Irish pirates and resulted to his abduction where was brought to Ireland.
It was in Ireland where St.
Patrick remained as captive for a period of six years.
During that time, slavery was common and human rights were never heard of.
Hence, St.
Patrick experienced heavy labor being a slave.
He survived the hard life he had in Ireland by turning to religion.
St.
Patrick worked as a shepherd for his Master and most of his solitude time was spent thinking that his past mistakes lead him to become a slave hence he needed repentance.
He soon learned to say hundred of prayers every morning and every night.
He was able to escape Ireland and went back to his homeland.
St.
Patrick then decided to become a priest and studied in France.
After becoming a priest, he heard a voice telling him to go back to Ireland.
The next 30 years of his life was spent in Ireland where he helped in building several churches, monasteries, and schools in Ireland.
He died on March 17 461, which is now being celebrated as St.
Patrick's Day, a national holiday in Ireland.
