How to Install a Mosaic Tile Floor

    • 1). With your chalk snapline, mark two intersecting lines across the floor, from wall to wall in both directions.

    • 2). Use your notched trowel to spread thinset mortar over the intersection. (The lines will still be visible through the rows of mortar.) Press your first mesh sheets of pre-mounted mosaic tiles into place along the lines, starting where they intersect.

    • 3). Continue laying sheets of mosaic, building out from the center toward the walls. When you get close enough to the wall that a full sheet won't fit, cut the mesh with your razor knife so that it does. (If the tiles themselves are landing halfway against the wall, cut them as needed with your hand-held tile cutters.)

    • 4). Let the tiles set for eight hours. Apply grout over the tiles with a grout float, wiping it across the surface and pressing it into the lines between the tiles.

    • 5). Let the grout sit in the lines for about a minute, then wipe the excess off the tile surface with a wet sponge.
