Outdoor Plant Container

• Homes with a grassy entrance look lovely with wooden plant containers. One type is made with single half-inch-thick sheet of plywood that measures 1-foot wide by 2 feet long by 1 foot deep. Either stamp the handprints with a hand-shaped sponge or have each member of the household place a handprint. When several people are involved in designing a home project, it gives the project and home a sense of unity.
  
  

Wooden Chest

• Use a wooden chest to display Old Glory with households hands serving as the representative stars. Not all 50 will fit. Choosing the size of the chest depends on the use it serves. It can be in the entrance hall and used for storing shoes, or can be in the kitchen to store dry goods or in the living room to store extra blankets. Craft stores usually sell premade wooden chests, paint and a clear lacquer to go over the finished paint.
  
  

Side of a Barn or Garden Shed

• Large murals painted in the United States demonstrate local talent for art. Consider painting the American flag on the side of a barn or garden shed. Painting the side of either is a larger project and is an opportunity to recruit help from friends. Each can stamp their handprints as the stars. Finish the day with an all-American barbecue.
  
  

Welcome Garden Sign

• Make a welcome sign and post it at the front or back door, depending on which one gets the most use. The welcome sign should measure 1-by-2 feet and with wooden pointed stakes on either end to push into the ground. Carefully paint, in white, "Welcome to the Lastnames" on a red stripe. Use the households hands as the stars, including pets with paws. Once the white paint dries, carefully write the name of each inside the white star with a black permanent marker.
