How to Gather Seeds From a Rose Bush
- 1). Monitor your rose bush and harvest the hip when it begins to show color.
- 2). Place the hip in a sealable plastic bag and place it in the refrigerator until the first of January.
- 3). Cut open the hip, using a small knife. Scrape out the seeds.
- 4). Place a damp paper towel and the seeds in a sealable bag. Place the bag in the refrigerator.
- 5). Place 2 inches of seed starter soil in the seed trays near the end of February.
- 6). Place the seeds on top of the soil and cover with 1/4-inch of seed starting mix.
- 7). Water the seeds and place the trays in a cool area where temperatures will be between 32 and 55 degrees F.
- 8). Water the seeds often with one part hydrogen peroxide to 19 parts water.
- 9). Pot seedlings into 3-inch pots when they have one true leaf.
