How to Paint Gustavian Furniture
- 1). Wash the surface of the wood with dish soap. Rinse the surface thoroughly before continuing.
- 2). Set the furniture on a heavy-duty fabric drop cloth.
- 3). Abrade the surface of the Gustavian furniture to promote paint adhesion by sanding it with 80- to 120-grit sandpaper. Do not over-sand. Stop sanding when the surface feels slightly rough to the touch.
- 4). Wipe down the furniture with a tack cloth.
- 5). Apply latex primer to the furniture using the 2- to 4-inch latex paintbrush. Apply a thin coat. Allow the surface to dry for four hours before continuing.
- 6). Wash the paintbrush with warm water. Shake the brush vigorously to remove excess moisture.
- 7). Apply latex paint in the same manner as you did the primer. Allow the surface to dry for two hours. Apply additional coats as necessary.
