Writing down resolutions is perhaps one of the first things people do at the beginning of the New Year. For many smokers, resolving to quit their smoking habit is on the top of the list. But no sooner that the New Year enters, majority of these smokers that have written down that they would quit smoking this year, wind up throwing this resolution out of the window. In fact, as much as 90% of smokers that have resolved that they would kick their smoking habit end up still sticking with it. Smoking is more than just another bad habit. It is considered as a form of addiction. This is the main reason why even though millions of people want to stop smoking, they find it very difficult to do. And just as there are millions of people that find it difficult to quit smoking, there are millions more that have been successful in kicking off the habit once and for all. Here are just some of the many reasons why you should quit smoking once and for all.

It Makes You Physically Unappealing

Many of the people that started smoking did so because of peer pressure. Back then, they were under the impression that not only is smoking cool, it made them look mature and all grown-up. Smoking, as we know by now, is not cool. But it definitely makes you look mature. Smoking minimizes the amount of oxygen that is carried by the blood stream into the different cells of the body, which is essential for them to restore and rejuvenate themselves. On top of that, the different toxins that come with smoking increase the amount of free radicals and toxic substances in the body, which have been linked to premature ageing. The smoke emitted by the cigarette also clings to your body, hair and clothing and the smell can definitely turn off many people. Moreover, nicotine and the other chemicals in the cigarette cause discoloration of your teeth and lips. Not only is this unsightly, the chemicals still stick to your teeth and also inside your mouth, which can result in bad breath.

It Affects Your Well-Being

Smoking, as we know, is dangerous to your health. This is the most common reason why smokers want to quit smoking. There have been numerous articles, reports, advertisements and advocacies launched to inform the general public of the perverse long-term effects smoking has on ones physical health. But it is not only your physical health that is affected with smoking. Smoking can also affect your emotional well-being. Studies have shown that smoking has been found to be one of the factors that cause the deterioration of romantic relationship and friendships. In fact, one of the biggest date turn-offs people have noted was finding out that their date smokes.

Your Family Suffers with You

Second-hand smoking (inhaling the smoke that you exhale and emitted by the cigarette) is actually more harmful than smoking cigarettes. Whenever you smoke, the people around you also inhale the smoke that you emit. That includes your family and children. Many of those who have developed diseases and illness linked to smoking got them because of their exposure to second-hand smoking. As such, you place your family at a higher health risk each time you light up a cigarette.
