How to Plant Blue Bell Flowers
- 1). Prepare a cool, shady area in your garden. The soil should be moist, but well drained. Spade the soil to a depth of 6 inches, then work in 2 to 4 inches of decomposed manure or compost.
- 2). Dig a hole for each bluebell bulb, using a shovel or trowel. Plant the bulb approximately four times as deep as the width of the bulb. Place the bulb in the hole with the eye, or growing point, facing the sky.
- 3). Fill the hole with soil, and pat the soil gently around the bulb. Water immediately.
- 4). Cover the planting area with 3 to 4 inches of mulch such as pine needles; dry, chopped leaves; or shredded bark. Mulch will insulate the roots and keep the soil moist.
