    • 1). Check your PS3's network connection. Navigate to the settings page and select network settings. Choose Internet connection test and allow the test to run. Afterward, check the NAT type on the results screen. You will only need to change your NAT type if "Type 3" is shown on the screen.

    • 2). Go to network settings and select Internet connection settings. Write down your current IP address, subnet mask, default router and DNS settings on a piece of paper.

    • 3). Set up a static IP address for your PS3's Internet connection. Under address settings, select custom. Under IP address setting, select manual. Enter the IP address, subnet mask, default router and DNS settings you wrote down and save the settings.

    • 4). Log on to your router and navigate to the "port forwarding" settings under "applications and gaming." Enter the static IP address where the ports are being forwarded and enter TCP ports 80, 443 and 5223 into the start and end columns. Enter UDP ports 5223, 3478, 3479 and 3658 into the columns with the same static IP address. Save your settings and restart the router.

    • 5). Allow the Internet connection test on the PS3 to run once more. The NAT type should now be shown as either type 1 or type 2.
