Bring Back the Simple Life - We Can Control Our Health
We all have the right to feel great and to be well and healthy.
Sometimes, as we age, we think that it's just normal because of our age that we don't feel as well as we should.
It can come as a bit of a shock when suddenly things start to go wrong with your body.
You just don't feel as well as you should and you certainly can't do all the things that were previously a breeze.
My rude awakening came when a few little health problems appeared and, it seemed that the only choice for me was to be 'medicated'.
The idea of taking drugs for the rest of my life did not appeal, so when I was introduced to some natural food supplements ...
it seemed worth giving them a try.
The results I experienced led me on a journey of discovery and a passion to help other people enjoy a life of 'wellness' without having to rely on 'medication'.
I realize some people do need medication but I strongly believe that we are an 'over-medicated' society.
ALL drugs have a level of toxicity and can have very unwelcome side-effects.
Funnily enough, I started my working life (I won't tell you how long ago that was) as an apprentice pharmacist.
I worked in a hospital pharmacy and spent my days counting pills and handing them out to a continual line-up of sick people.
I didn't complete my apprenticeship, deciding that just being a wife and mother would suit me better.
Three children and seven grandchildren later, here I am mastering the intricacies of the internet and spreading the word that 'natural' is better, and that we can take some control over our own health.
In those days, back when I was young, it was unusual to find a naturopath or any complementary or alternative style of treatment.
Chiropractors were few and far between and considered to be 'quacks'.
Neither did we rely so much on Doctors or Drugs as we do now.
Meals, back then, were simple and wholesome.
Milk was delivered straight from the dairy, people grew, and shared, their own fruit and vegetables.
There were never any out-of season fruits or vegetables available in the shops - it was all grown locally or nearby.
Maybe in the bigger cities it was different but in the small town where I grew up, seeing fresh fruit in the shops was a rare site.
Of course, neither were there any supermarkets in those days.
We had a local 'Johnnie' who used to come with his produce from the Chinese Market Garden.
He carried his vegies in baskets on a pole across his shoulders.
One of my earliest memories was being frightened that he would whisk me away in his huge basket! But, in fact, he became a great friend of my Mother's and used to bring us all sorts of exciting gifts from China.
We certainly didn't have the variety of food that is available for us now, we didn't have all the 'processed' foods that are now available, nor did we have the environmental issues or the toxins that are so prevalent today.
I was always a 'picky' eater when I was a child but my Mother made sure I had some extra vitamin and cod liver oil supplements to keep me healthy.
I was very rarely sick and have continued in good health.
I don't know if it was just luck, or maybe good management on my Mother's part, but I never did like very rich food or pastries.
I never liked fizzy 'soft drinks' and always preferred to just drink water or the lovely fresh milk that was delivered straight from the local dairy and poured into our waiting jugs.
Now I think of it - our next door neighbours used to have regular deliveries of 'soft drink' which they consumed in great quantities, and ...
they were all 'very fat and overweight!' Just reflect for a moment on how much space is taken up on the supermarket shelves by soft drink!! That surely is not a good thing.
