Learning ZoneXpress quickly responds to nation's need for Spanish-language new food icon products with Spanish MyPlate poster and handouts

OWATONNA, Minn., June 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- A Spanish-language version of the popular USDA MyPlate poster and handouts tablet are now available from the Learning ZoneXpress (LZX) website.

MyPlate is the USDA's new healthy eating guide. It is replacing the familiar but confusing food pyramid. MyPlate clearly shows that half of all food intake should be fruits and vegetables, with the other half split between grains and protein-rich foods. It also encourages choosing fat-free or low-fat dairy products. It was unveiled on June 2 by First Lady Michelle Obama, who has repeatedly promoted better eating and healthier living - especially for children - with the Let's Move campaign.

The new MyPlate guide has been well received, especially by experts and practitioners who work with children and youth. A plate is immediately associated with eating and food in a way that the pyramid was not. Also the plate offers practical guidelines on visually how much fruit and vegetables we should be eating versus other food groups. Even the youngest children understand the concept with little explanation. Because of the visual nature, it was a perfect tool for multiple languages.

Twenty-four hours after MyPlate was introduced, Learning ZoneXpress had MyPlate posters, handouts, bookmarks, and magnets ready for distribution. "MyPlate is easy to understand and easy to remember," says Melanie Nelson, CEO of Learning ZoneXpress. "It's a great addition to the ongoing effort to teach nutrition and healthy eating habits, so we wanted to capitalize on it quickly."

According to Nelson, LZX began working on a Spanish-language version of its MyPlate poster and handout as soon as its English-language MyPlate products were available. "Our designers and writers are phenomenal," she says noting that LZX is the only company in the country that offers MyPlate products in Spanish.

Learning ZoneXPress continues to work on developing new products based on the USDA MyPlate graphic and guideline. For more information visit http://www.ChooseMyPlate.gov or http://www.learningzonexpress.com or check out the Melanie Netlson's blog http://melaniescorner.com/
