Power

• A Trane XE 1000 air conditioner, like any other brand, requires electricity to operate. Make sure your air conditioner has a power supply. A power outage at your residence will be obvious, but other possibilities include a tripped breaker or a turned-off service switch beside the outdoor unit. If your system is connected to a fuse panel, the fuse assigned to the air conditioner may be blown and simply need replacement. You should also check the power switch on the thermostat to make sure it is on.
  
  

Settings

• One common mistake homeowners make is not checking their air conditioner settings before calling a repair technician. This is likely the first place the repairman will look, and it is an issue you can address yourself. Without the proper settings, your Trane air conditioner will not start. For example, if the temperature selector is set to a level that is higher than the room temperature, the system has no reason to come on. You should also check whether the selector switch is set to “cool” or “heat.”
  
  

Blower Door Ajar

• The door to the blower compartment on your Trane’s indoor air handler has a switch that ensures the door is secure. The switch will prevent the system from coming on if the blower door is ajar the slightest bit. Check the blower door on the air handler and make sure it is closed completely. The door may be ajar if there has been work done to the unit recently or if you have accidentally bumped the blower door and caused it to open slightly.
  
  

Overheat or Overload

• If there is a power surge or if the air conditioning system overheats, it will protect itself by shutting down. The reset switch, located on the indoor unit housing, will pop out and break the circuit to the system and prevent it from starting again until it is manually reset. Assuming you have tended to the problem of overheating, such as changing filters, and there is no further problem with the electrical current, you can manually press the reset button, and the system should work.
