Avoid Air Duct Cleaning Crooks

There are plenty of crooks out there and they will either do a quick, shoddy job, or often not clean the system at all.
These companies will often use extremely cheap pricing to get the appointment, but upon arrival will increase the price dramatically because of options that they say were not included or that are suddenly needed.
Some customers have needed to have their HVAC systems re-cleaned because a company, with a small portable vacuum did not clean properly or in some cases did not clean at all.
One such company used an extremely low price to get the sale and upon arrival increased the price five times the original quote.
They then proceeded to clean two easily seen areas, but did not clean the majority of the HVAC system.
The customer stated that she became suspicious when the employee spent most of their time trying to sell her on more options, than actual time cleaning.
Fortunately, they had paid with a credit card and did a card dispute to get the charges reversed.
Many of these companies hire temps as employees and do not train them, but just send them out to do a job in which they have no experience.
On one occasion, the temp worker hooked up the small, portable vacuumed incorrectly, and because of their lack of training blew the dust into the room.
This customer had paid with a check and had a more difficult time obtaining a refund, but with pictures and other evidence of a poor job, they were successful.
Be extremely careful who you hire! A company that uses a truck-mounted vacuum has much more power and does a far superior job to the small portable vacuums used by many companies (including many carpet companies who advertise a truck-mounted carpet cleaner, but use a little portable vacuum for air duct cleaning).
Hire only a company that will give you the price beforehand, which should only vary by a small amount if some the information given was inaccurate.
In summary, a reputable company will: • Clean your air ducts with a powerful truck-mounted vacuum • Use an air-powered whip to loosen debris • Remove and clean all of your air registers as needed • Protect your floor and carpets as needed • Clean all of your branch ducts • Clean your main trunk lines • Clean your furnace blower compartment and coils as needed • Give an accurate price beforehand, an abide by that price, unless information obtained was inaccurate or incomplete
