    • 1). Check the breaker box to ensure it can accept a 220V circuit. At least two adjacent unused circuit breaker spaces must be available. If spaces are not available, an electrician must install a larger breaker box.

    • 2). Turn off the main switch in the breaker box.

    • 3). Install a breaker in the breaker box by first attaching the non-conducting side and snapping it into position. Ensure the breaker is sized for the amperage of the appliance this line is intended for, and consult the American Wire Gauge chart in the Reference section to select the appropriately-sized wire.

    • 4). Run wires from the breaker box to the location where the outlet will be installed. Do not yet connect the wires to the breaker you just installed. Pass the wires through an electrical conduit if you're securing wires along a basement ceiling or wall.

    • 5). Attach the wires to the outlet following the manufacturer's instructions. Mount the outlet in its chosen location.

    • 6). Check once more whether the power to the service panel is turned off. Connect the hot wires to the circuit breaker. Connect the neutral wire to the neutral bus bar. Ensure all connections are clear and turn all power back on.
