How to Install a Pool Electrical Outlet
- 1). Look at the electrical outlet near your pool. If your outlet has "TEST" and "RESET" buttons on it, it is GFCI protected. If not, it needs replacing.
- 2). Turn off the power to your pool circuit at the breaker box and unscrew the old outlet. Unscrew the terminals and remove the wiring. Discard the old outlet.
- 3). Connect your new GFCI electrical outlet to the wiring. Connect the black wire to the brass "LINE" terminal. Tighten it down. Connect the white wire to the silver "LINE" terminal. Tighten it down. Connect the bare wire to the green "GROUND" terminal. Tighten it down.
- 4). Tuck the wires into the electrical box and screw the outlet in place with the provided screws.
- 5). Slide the weatherproof cover over the top of the outlet and secure to the electrical box with the provided screws.
- 6). Turn the power back on to the pool circuit. Press the "TEST" button. Check the outlet with a volt meter to see that the power is absent. Press the "RESET" button. Check the outlet once more with a volt meter to see that the power is present.
- 7). Test the outlet monthly to ensure it functions properly.
