How to Change Power Saving on a Laptop

    • 1). Click the "Start" button, type "power options" and click "Power Options" from the search results.

    • 2). Click the "Power saver" plan and click its "Change plan settings" link, located to its right.

    • 3). Click the drop-down menus under "On battery" or "Plugged in" to change the time delay before dimming or turning off the display or putting the computer to sleep. You can also click and drag the slider next to "Adjust plan brightness" to reduce the brightness of your LCD screen to consume less power.

    • 4). Click "Change advanced power settings" at the bottom of the "Power Options" window.

    • 5). Click the "+" next to any component you wish to adjust, such as "Hard disk" or "Desktop background settings." This expands the selection to access additional subcategories or component actions. Click the highlighted action next to "On battery" or "Plugged in" to change the action. As an example, you can choose to pause the desktop background's slideshow while running on the battery. Click "OK" to close the advanced power settings window.

    • 6). Click "Save changes" to accept your new power settings.
