Instructions

Delete Icons

1

Determine which icons you want to keep on your desktop. To avoid clutter, desktop icons should represent the most commonly used programs and drives on your computer.
2

Right-click an icon that you want to remove and choose "Delete" from the menu. This will not uninstall or delete the program; it will only move the desktop icon to the "Recycle Bin."
3

Click "Yes" when prompted to move the icon to your Recycle Bin.

Auto Arrangement

1

Right-click a blank spot on your desktop and hover your mouse pointer over the "View" option.
2

Click the "Auto Arrange" option to place a check next to it on the menu. This will allow Windows to automatically stack your icons in neat rows from the left side of the screen. Every time you add a new icon or move an icon, Windows will automatically arrange it for you. If you want to move icons manually, click to remove the check next to this option.
3

Click the "Align to Grid" option to place a check next to the option in the menu. This will force all of your icons to align in a grid on your desktop, making straight rows and columns. Each new icon you place on the desktop in the future will align to the grid. If you want to freely move icons on your desktop, remove the check in the box next to this option.

Manual Arrangement

1

Left-click on an icon and hold the mouse button down.
2

Drag your mouse across the desktop to move the icon.
3

Release the left mouse button to place the icon in a new location on your desktop.
4

Repeat the process until you have rearranged your Windows icons to your liking.
