Can You Use Your Plasma TV As a Computer Monitor?
- Flat-panel HDTVs offer a wide variety of connections. They can include VGA, HDMI, and DVI. Check your plasma TV's documentation to see which connectors it has.
- You may have an older plasma TV whose highest-quality input is component video. In this case, you will need to buy a device that connects component cables from your computer to your television.
- HDMI is the ideal connection type, but your computer may not have this output. Refer to your computer's documentation. You may have DVI and/or VGA, both of which can be used with plasma TVs.
- If you go with DVI or VGA, be aware that these cables do not transmit audio to your TV's speakers. You will need separate audio cables, or you will need to use a speaker system.
- Since a plasma TV can be much larger than a typical monitor, you may need to set your TV much farther back than usual. A standard computer desk may not provide enough distance.
