How to Change the Radiator in a 2000 Yukon

    • 1). Remove the radiator cap. Slide the drain pan under the radiator petcock, which is at the bottom of the radiator. Loosen the petcock and allow the radiator to drain. Discard the coolant in an appropriate manner. Remove the upper radiator shroud bolts, using a socket, then pull the shroud out of the engine compartment.

    • 2). Remove the upper panel, upper insulators and brackets, if your Yukon has them, using the appropriate wrenches and sockets. Loosen the clamps on the upper and lower radiator hoses at the radiator, using the appropriate socket, screwdriver or pliers, depending on the type of clamp.

    • 3). Remove the hose leading to the radiator's overflow bottle. If the transmission cooler is contained in the radiator, remove the transmission cooler lines, using a line wrench. Block the ends of the lines with a rag and prop them up against the engine or frame, so they don't leak. Some 2000 Yukons have a separate transmission cooler. If this is the case, you do not need to remove transmission cooler lines.

    • 4). Remove the lower fan shroud, using the appropriate socket. Remove the radiator from the lower brackets and insulators, using the appropriate socket or wrench.

    • 5). Install the radiator into the lower brackets and insulators. Install the lower fan shroud and its retaining bolts. Tighten the lower fan shroud bolts to 71 inch-pounds of torque. Reattach the cooler lines, if you removed them. Tighten them to 18 foot-pounds of torque.

    • 6). Reattach the lower and upper radiator hoses and tighten the clamps firmly. Reinstall the upper insulators and the fan shroud. Tighten the fan shroud bolts to 71 inch-pounds of torque. Reattach the overflow bottle line. Reinstall the upper panel fasteners, if they were removed. Close the petcock, then fill the radiator with 50/50 antifreeze. Start the engine. Check for leaks and check the transmission fluid. Top it off as needed.
