You Want to be a Rockstar!

So, you've decided that you want to pursue your rockstar dreams! You need to learn how to play the guitar! Although it can seem like a very uphill battle to start, you can do it. No need to stare at the instrument and not have any idea what to do with it other than how to hold it! Now is the time to lose the fear and start learning to shred! Well maybe you just want to play by the campfire - either way, you can do it!

Why Do You Want to Play?

So ask yourself first, "Why do I want to learn guitar?" The answer to this question will help you follow through with your learning goals. Many people decide that they want to play the guitar, but never actually follow through with it because they don't have the answer to that first question. Or they quit too quickly and move onto something else. When you have the answer to the question, "Why" in your head, you will be more likely to focus and stick with it through to the end!

Acoustic, Electric? How Do you Choose?

The reason why you want to play will also tell you what type of equipment you need. With all the different types of guitars, the choices can seem overwhelming. But don't let all the options get in your way. You can learn with a simple, inexpensive acoustic guitar if you like. If you know you really want to play electric guitar, than a basic guitar and amp is all you really need to get started. You can always upgrade as your skills improve - and they will!

OK - Now How Do I Learn??

So, you've gotten your equipment and now, you need to learn how to play. Hiring a private teacher can be very expensive. There are probably instructors in your area, either musicians working out of their home, or at music stores. However, they can be quite expensive and it is sometimes difficult to find the time to drive back and forth consistently to their locations. That is why for many people, it is a better idea to learn guitar on their own. You can always take private lessons later on as your skills increase.

That being said, you can't just pick up a simple book on playing guitar, or a simple guitar video, and expect to become Eddie VanHalen right away. It takes more than that, but these days there are some great online guitar tutoring options that can really work.

I Can Learn Online?

Online guitar learning can work really well as it presents some new ways of learning. You can read information, watch videos, and listen to examples at the same time. Additionally the courses contain interactive software to be sure you absorb the information. Not only that, but the best online courses don't cost you an arm and a leg. They are really very comprehensive and can quickly help you achieve your goal of becoming an experienced, and more importantly, a good, guitar player. There is no reason you can't achieve your goal!
