Sariah Interview

One of the highlights of Winter Music Conference is seeing artists performing live and getting to meet the people behind the music. I was at the Belvedere lounge outside the W and I saw this beautiful girl wearing a hot black dress, insane gold necklace, with full-on make-up and a Snooki-bump (that is, Amy Winehouse) hairdo -- all at 11:30 in the morning. I knew she had to be a singer so I walked up and said hi and realized I was meeting Sariah.

Her debut single "Deep N Luv" is a fun party record about clubbing, finding love, and doing body shots (well, maybe that is out of order). Tony Moran and Warren Rigg's mix bring the tribal beats and Sariah totally sells the record with her aggressive vocals. Something tells me that we are going to be seeing a lot of her and I am definitely looking forward to putting lime on her navel.

DJ Ron Slomowicz: So is this your first time in Miami and your first Winter Music Conference?
Sariah: It is my first time in Miami. I'm supposedly a virgin to all this, and apparently they popped my cherry the other day, so...

RS: Are you from New York or New Jersey?
Sariah: I'm from Boston.

RS: From Boston. Because you're wearing the Snooki bun.
Sariah: Yes, I'm wearing the Snooki bun because it’s really hot. That’s the only reason why, I promise.

RS: It’s really cute on you. So tell us about your first single “Deep N Luv.”
Sariah: It just hit iTunes on Tuesday and had a great response in the UK, also New York and all over.

They played it in Toronto as well, the remix. We have remixes by Tony Moran, the Delorean Crew, Rod Carillo. It’s amazing, it’s hot, and really great. We had reviews from I Like, Sweet Music and Reverb Nation. So it’s been really great and I'm so blessed and excited.

RS: Did you write the song?
Sariah: I co-wrote the song with Cory Gibson. He’s a really talented writer, he's young and fresh to the scene, so he's done a good thing.

RS: When you wrote the song do you start with the track, do you start with the lyrics, what's your process?
Sariah: That's a really good question actually. It kind of came both ways. I love the inspiration from the club and the nightlife. That's where our whole concept came from. So it’s called “Deep N Luv” because when you go to the club, you want to have a good time and want to fall in love for the night. That’s really what it's about. Mass Ave Productions came with this track and we were like 'ah, perfect, it’s about the club, we’re going to fall in love for the night, let’s do it.' So we had a great time.

RS: Is there another song coming, an album?
Sariah: Yes, there's an EP coming with four more records. Some by Mass Ave and some by Michael Grant. They're going to be really good. They're also be available on iTunes in the next month or so.

RS: Are you going to be doing a tour around this song?
Sariah: Yes, absolutely. We’re starting choreography next week, I can't wait. Hopefully we’ll be back in Miami, you'll be with us, maybe Nashville, who knows, everywhere.

RS: What's your background?
Sariah: Irish, Polish, and Russian. Most people say Italian. Even Egyptian.
