Cutting The Pieces for Your Utility Cabinet

• 1). Take a sheet of plywood and cut two pieces that are each 9'10-1/2" x 2'6" for the sides of your cabinet.
  
  
• 2). Cut out two pieces on another sheet of plywood 5' x 2'6" each for the top and bottom of your utility cabinet.
  
  
• 3). Cut out two pieces on another sheet of plywood 9'10" x 2'5" each for the doors of your utility cabinet.
  
  
• 4). Cut out shelves for your cabinet if you want them. These are each 4'10-1/2" x 2'5".
  
  
• 5). Sand all rough edges off the cut pieces, including the full sheet of plywood. Apply wood stain or paint to them, and allow them to dry.
  
  

Assembling Your Utility Cabinet

• 1). Stand the top and bottom pieces up on the floor with the 5' sides down parallel to each other, ten feet apart. Place two pieces from Step 1 in between the top and bottom to form a rectangle. Fasten the frame together by driving five 1-1/2" screws through both ends of the top and bottom into the sides. The rectangular frame for your cabinet is complete.
  
  
• 2). Lay the uncut sheet of plywood over the frame and attach it. Drive a 1-1/2" screw through it every six inches around the edges into the frame.
  
  
• 3). Stand the completed portion of your cabinet up and install any shelves you may want. Place them against the back of the cabinet and drive four 1-1/2" screws through the sides of the cabinet into both ends of each shelf.
  
  
• 4). Attach two hinges on one 9'10" side of each door for your cabinet. Screw half of the hinges on the 3/4" edge about a foot inwards from the top and bottom. Make sure the hinge portion faces the front side of the doors.
  
  
• 5). Have someone hold each door up in the open position while you screw the other half of the hinges behind the doors to the front inside edges of each side of your cabinet.
  
  
• 6). Screw a handle on each door. Your new utility cabinet is now complete.
