Obtain the Driver File

• 1). Open your Internet browser and go to HP's "Support and Drivers" website (see Resources).
  
  
• 2). Click the radio button next to "Download drivers and software (firmware)."
  
  
• 3). Type in your laptop's family and model number in the "For product" field, then press your keyboard's "Enter" key For example, for HP's "Pavilion DV4-2145DX Entertainment Notebook PC," the family is "Pavilion" and the number is "DV4-2145DX."
  
  
• 4). Click the "Software & Driver Downloads" link to advance the webpage.
  
  
• 5). Click the down-arrow next to "Select" under "Step one: Select your operating system" and make a choice. Click the "Next" button and wait for another section to appear below.
  
  
• 6). Click on the "+" (plus sign) next to the "Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices" category to expand it. Click the link to the touchpad driver to go to the download page. Click on the "Download" link, then click the "Save File" button in the pop-up box to save the file to your hard drive. Save the file to a location that you can remember.
  
  

Install the Updated Driver

• 1). Find the Synaptics touchpad driver file where you saved it in the previous section.
  
  
• 2). Double-click on the file to open it, then click the "Run" button in the pop-up window.
  
  
• 3). Read and follow the instructions in the installation program window until it is complete. Be prepared for a system restart.
