Easiest Way to Remove Wall Tile
- 1). Wear safety goggles over your eyes and put the respirator over your mouth. While you are removing tile, you will create dust and debris that can be dangerous if inhaled.
- 2). Chip away the grout from one tile using a utility knife. The grout will loosen when you apply pressure and it will fall away from the wall. Remove the grout from all sides of the tile.
- 3). Insert the edge of a putty knife under the tile against the wall. Move the knife back and forth to loosen the tile from the cement on the wall. Putting pressure against the putty knife will pop the tile from the wall. For a stubborn tile that will not move, you can gently hit the end of the putty knife using a hammer or mallet to push it beneath the tile.
- 4). Remove the grout around the tile next to the tile you have just removed. Use the space you have created by removing a tile to move the putty knife beneath the next tile so that you may easily remove it. Continue the process until all tiles have been removed.
