What Are TFT LCD Display Modules Used For?
- Thin film displays are found in televisions, individually directing the pixels in the display. Because the transistors require such small amounts of power, extremely fast switching is possible, working to eliminate streaks caused by fast-moving objects. TFT layers are found between the polarizing filter in front of the light source and the liquid crystals themselves.
- Thin film transistors are located between the small light emitting diode (LED) that illuminates the small screen and LCD layer. Often, these act in concordance with a reactive layer that allows touchscreen operation. These TFT modules are usually significantly thinner than those found on televisions and commercial displays.
- Modern laptops employ TFT layers between their cold cathode florescent lamp backlighting and the thinner LCD layer. As of 2011, TFTs have evolved significantly since their introduction into this technology, offering far superior switching speeds than in years past. Previously, moving a cursor across an older laptop at any rate of speed resulted in the cursor disappearing, because the thin transistors could not keep up. Laptops produced in 2011, with their high-speed processors and graphics capabilities, require the display to keep pace. These laptop displays compete favorably with their desktop cousins.
- Digital cameras are used in bright environments. Competing with direct sunlight and intense indoor lighting, TFT-based layers must be bright enough to be visible. On many cameras, the LCD monitor on the back fully replaces a conventional viewfinder and shows a picture preview. As a result, the TFT must offer very high resolution. These TFTs must be efficient enough to be in constant use while conserving battery power to a reasonable degree.
