How to Test for a USB 2.0 Port

    • 1). Click on the "Start" button in the lower-left corner of your computer screen. Open the "Control Panel."

    • 2). Double-Click on the "System" icon.

    • 3). Click on the "Hardware" tab, then "Device Manager" in Windows XP. Windows Vista or Windows 7 users click on the "Device Manager" link from the left side navigation options of the system options window.

    • 4). Click the "+" symbol next to the heading "Universal System Bus controllers" to expand the USB folder of the hardware profiles tree.

    • 5). Scroll through the list of Universal System Bus controllers. Controllers listed with the word "Enhanced" are USB 2.0 capable. If the list does not contain any controllers with the word enhanced in the title, then the system does not currently have any USB 2.0 ports installed.
