How to Crimp Hydraulic Fittings
- 1). Open the jaws of the crimping pliers and insert the collar of the hydraulic hose fitting into the jaws of the crimping pliers. Turn the adjustment knob on the crimping pliers until the jaws are just wide enough to allow the fitting to slide between the jaws.
- 2). Lay the hydraulic hose alongside the hydraulic fitting. Align the end of the hose so it is even with the top of the retaining collar on the fitting. Mark the hose with the felt pen even with the bottom of the fitting's retaining collar.
- 3). Twist the hydraulic hose onto the end of the hydraulic fitting until the line you made with the pen is even with the bottom of the retaining collar on the fitting.
- 4). Slide the collar of the hydraulic fitting into the crimping pliers. Push the hose and fitting towards the jaws of the pliers while squeezing the handles of the crimping pliers until the collar on the fitting is fully compressed on the hose.
- 5). Remove the fitting from the pliers and examine the fitting, checking that the crimp is uniform around the entire circumference if the collar. If not, rotate the fitting 90 degrees and reinsert the fitting back into the jaws of the pliers and recrimp the fitting.
