Home Water Filtration Systems - What Type Should You Choose?

When it comes to choosing a water filter, you have many options.
Sorting through all of the various home water filtration systems can seem quite complicated at first.
After all, this is an important decision that requires a good deal of research.
Decisions that can have an effect on your health should not be taken lightly.
This is why you should go out of your way to choose a line of filters that many consider to be the best water filtration systems.
The question still remains; which method of filtration is the most ideal? There are quite a few different ways to filter water.
It should go without saying that many companies have been created to attempt to create the best possible filter with the method of their choosing.
The top methods include: activated charcoal, reverse osmosis, ultraviolet disinfection, and water ionization.
Activated charcoal is a very popular and effective means for filtering water.
Charcoal is naturally a very porous substance and has the ability to attract to its surface many carbon-based chemicals.
In effect, quite a large amount and variety of contaminants are trapped as water passes through the charcoal.
Activated charcoal is the end result of further modifying charcoal to make it even more porous and therefore more effective.
Another great feature of this method is that it allows for naturally occurring minerals to pass through.
This is very important as some of these minerals are difficult to replace by knowing which food to add to your diet.
Many companies have also chosen to produce reverse osmosis filters.
This requires the use of a semi-permeable membrane to extract basically all large molecules from a water source, leaving only water.
Drawbacks concerning this method include the fact that the process wastes a lot of water and it filters out beneficial minerals as well.
Ultraviolet disinfection uses light radiation to destroy the DNA of microorganisms found in a water source.
However, some organisms are capable of remaining hidden from the radiation.
This method is also known as not being able to be a standalone process.
It usually requires a carbon filter to get rid of the dead microorganisms.
Water ionizers are said to be able to change the molecular structure of water to be able to make it more alkaline.
Companies that produce these filters claim that ingesting higher alkaline water has the potential effects of helping to prevent disease.
These types of filters are much more expensive than the other types and are the center of much controversy over the legitimacy of the technology used.
Hopefully this information has at least given you a quick introduction to the types of water filters available.
If you are in the market for a home water filter, make sure you do plenty of homework to choose the right filter for your needs.
