How to Refinish Stainless-Steel Appliances
- 1). Remove small surface blemishes from the stainless-steel appliance with a non-metal green scratch pad. Rub out the blemished area with the scratch pad along the grain of the metal. Spray down the area with stainless-steel cleaner and wipe clean with a cotton rag.
- 2). Run 240-grit sandpaper with the metal grain and overlap the damaged area a few inches on each side of a deep scratch. Sand the area with the coarser side of the sanding sponge, overlapping the sandpapered area a few more inches.
- 3). Work along the grain of the metal, using the finer side of the sanding sponge, to overlap the sanded areas even further by a few more inches around the blemished area. Sand the entire length of the metal along the grain with the coarse side of the sanding sponge.
- 4). Sand the entire metal area, along the grain, with the fine side of the sanding sponge. Polish the entire metal side of the appliance with stainless-steel cleaner and a cotton rag.
