How Can I Get Rid of Bees on My Bird Feeders?

    • 1). Rub vegetable oil around the openings to your bird feeder. The birds won't mind it, but the bees hate it. You can even rub vegetable oil on your skin as a bee repellent.

    • 2). Place a bee guard over the feeder so that the bees can't reach the sugar water. The hummingbirds have a long proboscis and will still be able to drink the nectar. You can purchase a bee guard, or you can make your own using a screen. If the bees can't reach the food, they will move on to another location.

    • 3). Make your own bee trap and set it next to the bird feeder that is being attacked by bees. Just take your soda bottle and cut the top off. Invert the top and set it back over the bottom piece. Staple or tape it into place. Pour 1/2 liter of soda into the soda bottle trap. This will attract the bees. The bees won't be able to get back out of the soda bottle and will drown in the soda.

    • 4). Use a pest control specialist to get the bees away from your bird feeder. They may spray the feeder with insecticides, which means you will need to thoroughly clean it out before you use it again to feed the birds.
