How to Make Money Baking

    • 1). Cater to people too busy to bake for the holidays. Compile a list of holiday cookies that are part of your repertoire. Take into account your cost of making them, including ingredients, utilities and your time. Print up a menu of the cookies you have available as well as prices per dozen. If desired, you can offer assorted dozens as well. Make sure you note order deadlines and your turn-around time. Deliver copies of your menu to co-workers, neighbors and nearby offices.

    • 2). Bone up on your cake decorating skills. Offer to make a cute cake as your gift to the child of a friend or family member. Bring along some business cards or other form of contact menu to the party and hand them out to people who ask you about the cake.

    • 3). Enter baking contests. If you want, start with smaller contests such as your county fair. Many cooking and baking magazines hold contests, as do food product companies (you might be familiar with the famous Pillsbury Bake-Off). Adhere to all the rules, be creative, make your items look appealing, and most of all make sure they taste delicious.

    • 4). Start a cake/pie/cookie/other-baked-good-of-the-month club. Put up flyers around town and hand them out to people you know. Offer a different delicious baked good every month, and sell various "subscriptions" such as three-month, six-month and one-year. Consider a niche market such as vegan options or dairy-free.

    • 5). Come up with a special baked item such as yummy cookies in the shape of your state, and offer to sell them on consignment at local stores, farmers markets and other places of business.
