Why Is it Asking for a PUK Code on My AT&T GoPhone?
- A PUK is a code that allows you to unlock your SIM card after losing access to the card. The loss of access results from three unsuccessful attempts to enter the SIM card’s PIN code. Once you lock your SIM, contact a representative from AT&T to get your personalized PUK code. You can obtain your PUK code by going to an AT&T store, calling AT&T customer service or accessing your online account.
- To get your PUK code from the AT&T Wireless website, log on to your account and click the “Manage My Phone/Device” tab. Within this subsection, you see an option that says “Unblock SIM Card.” Click this option and the AT&T website will display your PUK code. Additionally, the AT&T website will display instructions for unblocking the SIM card on your specific mobile device. At the conclusion of this process, you'll also create a new PIN number for your SIM card.
- In some cases, entering the PUK code won't unblock your SIM card. If you continue to receive an error message when entering the PUK code, purchase a new SIM card from AT&T. The primary reason your mobile device won't accept the PUK code is that you've previously entered the incorrect PUK code multiple times. While your SIM will lock after entering the PIN code incorrectly three times, AT&T gives you 10 attempts to enter the PUK code before permanently locking your SIM card.
- Your GoPhone will ask you to enter the PIN for your SIM card every time you insert the SIM card into your device. Therefore, you'll have to enter the PIN when you initially activate your GoPhone. If you enter this PIN code incorrectly three times, your GoPhone will require you to enter the PUK code.
