How to Lay Laminate Wood Flooring Under a Door Jamb
- 1). Take a piece of scrap laminate and whatever vapor barrier you have chosen to work with as a gauge to help guide your jamb saw while you cut the door jamb. Use a piece that is roughly 6 inches square. Place it on top of the vapor barrier and slide it next to the door jamb. Place the jamb saw blade on top of your scrap material and undercut the door jamb to the edge of the door frame.
- 2). Repeat the process on the opposite side of the door frame then clean the scrap material out of the cut-out area. The best way to do this is to use a hammer and a flat head screwdriver to reach underneath the door and cut the excess jamb out.
- 3). Check your laminate material to see if it will slide into place without a cut or if you need to mark it to notch around the actual door frame. Cut the piece to fit, if necessary, with a chop saw then slide it into place within the tongue-and-groove system. Since you cut the piece to the door frame, not the jamb, the actual cuts are buried underneath the frame and covered by the jamb, which means it looks like a seamless installation once it's covered by the trim.
