Before you venture out and go shopping do a little planning and think of things you need to ask. Exploring products (carpet, wood, laminate, ceramic, vinyl and rugs) online will help you better understand the differences and your options.
1. Most floors are now priced by the square foot so be sure to have an approximate square footage of the room(s) you plan to decorate.

2. When replacing existing flooring be sure to ask about the cost of removal.

3. Credit can help you buy the floor of your dreams... be sure to ask about available financing options.

4. For larger areas where carpet or resilient is an option ask where the seams will fall.

5. Manufacturer warranties are important, ask to see a copy and take time to review it. Does the store have a written installation guarantee?

6. Proper floor care is essential for keeping your floors looking like like-new, have the store go over the proper methods for caring for your new floor.

7. For hard surface products (wood, laminate, ceramic and vinyl) ask about the proper floor protectors for furniture legs.
Things to keep in mind when you are shopping for flooring -
1. Activity - How well will the floor hold up to traffic?
2. Kids, Pets - How well will the floor hold up to kids and pets?
3. Moisture, Humidity - Will the floor be effected by excessive moisture or humidity?
4. Maintenance - What are the recommended floor care procedures and how often?
5. Sunlight - What will sunlight (UV rays) do to my floor? What precautions should I take to avoid problems?

The choices you make for the flooring in your condo will naturally be influenced by your budget and plans for the future of the unit, but if you want to get the most out of your purchase don't skip over the floors when it's time to pick out paint swatches and fixtures. Think of it this way your floors will get more use than any other single feature of your condo make sure they're up to your standards.
