    • 1). Open a Web browser, and then enter the router's IP address into the address bar. Unless changed, the default DD-WRT IP address is "192.168.1.1."

    • 2). Type the username and password. The default is "root" and "admin" without quotes.

    • 3). Click the "Wireless" tab.

    • 4). Click "Wireless Network Mode" and change it to the highest level supported, such as "N-Only." This increases the wireless networking performance at the expense of not allowing older wireless clients, such as those based on 802.11g and 802.11b, to connect to the wireless network. Click "Apply."

    • 5). Click the "Administration" tab.

    • 6). Click to change the router's central processing unit frequency to a higher setting under the "Overclocking" category. A higher clock frequency allows a router to process more routing tasks simultaneously, which increases the performance. Some routers do not support this feature. Forcing a router to run at a higher clock frequency causes it to generate more heat, which may lead to router lockups. Providing additional cooling for your router can alleviate this problem. Use the setting with care. Click "Apply" after changing the setting.
