How to Dye Beards

    • 1). Wash your beard thoroughly with shampoo and follow with a conditioner to soften the hair. Dry the beard completely using a towel or cool air from a hair dryer.

    • 2). Apply a thin layer of baby oil to the skin surrounding your beard to prevent accidentally dyeing your skin. This also protects the skin against any irritation caused by chemicals in the dye.

    • 3). Don your plastic gloves to protect your hands from staining. Open the dyeing kit and mix the color with the activator chemical in a small bowl. Mixing instructions vary among manufacturers, so refer to the instructions included with your specific kit.

    • 4). Brush the dye onto your beard using the small applicator included with your kit. Work upward from the roots of your facial hair to the ends, applying a light, even coat. Take care not to brush the dye directly onto the skin.

    • 5). Allow the dye to set for five to 15 minutes. The longer the dye sets, the the darker your hair will become.

    • 6). Rinse your beard thoroughly under cool, running water. Avoid using during the initial rinse as it can ruin the dye's effect. Use a comb to brush out all traces of dye while rinsing.

    • 7). Pat your beard dry with a towel. If your beard is not dark enough, repeat the previous steps until you achieve the desired shade.
