Use of an Angle Grinder
- An angle grinder can be used to remove rust and grime from other tools like shovels. Be sure that the item to be cleaned is tightly secured before attempting to clean. Gently press the grinder against the surface to be cleaned, with the wire wheel turning away from the edge so that it does not get caught on the side of the item. Grinders can also be used to remove paint from metal objects following the same step. For both of these applications, a wire wheel, which can be purchased for $2 or $3, needs to be attached.
- A metal cutoff wheel attachment is needed for cutting metal. Clamp the metal into place and lower the angle grinder onto it. Let the weight of the grinder assist in cutting through the metal. Tile is better cut with a diamond blade. Outline the cuts on both sides of the tile and fasten it securely. Cut about 1/8 inch and then flip the tile over and repeat the process on the other side.
- Attach the grinding wheel to the angle grinder and secure the tool blade that is going to be sharpened. Line up the grinder with the angle of the blade and then start the grinder. Move the grinder away from the user to avoid sparks and shards of metal flying into the user's face.
