    1968 Ford Mustang

    • In 1968, the first Ford Mustang with front and back side markers was launched. A previous major redesign of the Mustang was carried out in 1967, and the markers were added to the 1968 edition because Federal regulations made it compulsory to have them. This feature is the most used distinguishing marker to differentiate the '68 model from the '67 model.

A GT Mustang emblem was seen for the first time on the 1968 Mustang---that was still the emblem on the 2007 model. New features, like Select-shift Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission and AM/FM radio were also available with the '68 Mustang.

    2007 Ford Mustang

    • The 2007 Mustang GT came available in two new colors that were never available in previous models---Grabber Orange Clearcoat Metallic and Alloy Clearcoat Metallic. The 2007 Mustang GT came available with several new features, such as a standard auxiliary audio input jack, an electronic mirror with compass and six-way power passenger seat.

The appearance packages for the Mustang GT also included several appearance features, such as rolled exhaust tips and an engine cover displaying a Pony emblem. A CD player and airbags are standard in both GT deluxe convertibles and GT premium convertibles.

    1968 Mustang Engine

    • The 302 engine was used for the first time in the 1968 Ford Mustang; this engine would prove to be the replacement for the 289 engine---the version used in previous models. The 302 V8 provided 230 hp, which was 30 hp more than the 289 version; however, both were still a far cry from the amount of power generated by the GT model of the '07 Mustang.

    2007 Mustang Engine

    • The engines of both the 2007 Mustang GT convertible models--GT Deluxe and GT Premium--produce 300 hp at the rate of 5,750 rpm---providing 70 hp more than the 1968 Ford Mustang engine.

    Performance

    • The 1968 Mustang has a tremendous amount of speed---having the ability to go from 0 to 60 in 5.4 seconds. It can also go a quarter of a mile in 14.01 seconds. The GT model of the 2007 Mustang goes 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds; the V6 coupe model goes 0 to 60 in 6.9 seconds.
