Nutritional Enhancement With Hypnotherapy

With the recent success of books like "French Women Don't Get Fat" there is an increasing awareness that perhaps there are other aspects to eating and nutrition besides composition, glycaemic index, and caloric intake.
My beautiful trim wife is French and on a number of our trips to France we have indeed noticed that overall French women really don't get fat.
The important word here is 'don't' - not can't.
They certainly have the capacity to put on excess body fat.
But the reality is that overall they don't.
Not only do they avoid the obesity now so rampant in Australia, America and England but they also consume many of the 'food nasties', scorned by the medical community; and yet, they seem to live longer and lead better quality lives.
What is going on here? One of the greatest contributions hypnotherapy can make to nutrition is not necessarily trying to overtly program someone to change the quantities they eat, though that is possible.
It is often more a matter of helping some one to adjust how they eat.
How do people eat in our fast paced developed western nations? We all know the answer.
Fast! Very fast ...
and very distracted.
Often we are watching TV, reading, talking about business, or we are 'off with the fairies' - in other words, doing almost anything but paying attention to the actual activity and sensations of eating! It is clearly a 'get it down as quickly as possible' approach that has a ratio of something like 97% swallowingand3% enjoying the food.
Out of numerous hypnotherapeutic approaches here are 3 orientations to better eating and more thorough nutritional assimilation that might be effectively learned in the natural and comfortable slowed-down state of self-awareness known as hypnosis.
Eating as an Art: In this orientation one learns hypnotically to slow things right down.
Before one begins eating there is a quiet time of simply looking at the food, noticing textures, colours, arrangements and aromas.
Thoughts and feelings of gratitude and thankfulness are beneficial at this time.
When eating begins one places only small portions on one's fork or spoon and then focuses attention on every minute detail of eating.
Focus on the tongue and the taste buds.
Taste the food thoroughly! Bring your thoughts and focus back whenever you drift off to other matters.
Chew each bit of food thoroughly and savor every taste sensation as though you are allowing your tongue to 'suck out the very essence' of what you are eating.
Move the food about within your mouth slowly and swallow consciously only when the food is liquefied.
Focus also on feelings in your stomach as you notice a sensation of fullness developing more and more readily.
Time Distortion: In this orientation one can be helped to slow time right down whenever one sits down to eat.
It is like the opposite of the saying, "Time flies when you're having fun.
".
Time distortion is an innate human capacity that can be 'adjusted' through a variety of metaphoric devices during hypnosis.
This can be anchored to behaviour and experience so that, "The more I eat the slower time becomes" - like eating in slow motion.
You have now become a gourmet, savoring the subtle flavors of a beautiful meal.
Yes, that's how French culinary culture is set up.
Slow it down.
Savor it.
Relish each morsel.
Life is beautiful! This will make a huge difference.
Being OK with Hunger: In the astounding abundance of ourmodern developed nations we have made sensations of hunger 'bad' and we act as though we should never ever feel even the slightest bit of hunger.
"Oh, I'm a little hungry, quick! Find some food and eat it.
Hurry, eat! Make the bad hunger go away!" Here one can hypnotically be assisted in learning new perspectives on feeling hungry.
It is OK to feel hungry for a while andto that hunger we can hypnotically attach feelings of joy and accomplishment toward healthy soulful living.
Appropriate amounts of healthy hunger or 'a good appetite' prepare the digestive tract for optimal digestion of food intake and nutrient assimilation.
This is a big topic.
In the 3 approaches touched on here one can readily see that the physical organism which is the body can absorb far more of the nutrients from foods we do eventually end up eating.
We can even adjust metabolism to burn hotter and longer in a way similar to the time distortion approach mentioned above.
Truly, the human mind possesses a plasticity and capacities that are only now beginning to be more comprehensively understood and utilized for enhanced living.
