    • 1). Select a drawer latch that you feel will be easy enough for you to use but will keep your child out of a drawer. Drawer latches are available at home improvement, discount and hardware stores. Some drawer latches use adhesive instead of screws to secure them. They are easier to install but less sturdy overall.

    • 2). Place the larger piece of the drawer latch on the inside of the drawer. Toward the middle is best, so that a child can't reach it around the side of the drawer.

    • 3). Mark where you will need to drill the holes for the screws with a pencil.

    • 4). Place the second piece on the cabinet and mark with a pencil where you will need to place the screws for that piece.

    • 5). Drill the holes in the drawer and the cabinet where you made your marks. The packaging will tell you how small a drill bit you will need for the screws.

    • 6). Change the bit on your drill to a screwdriver appropriate for the screws included in your kit.

    • 7). Hold the pieces in place or have someone help you hold them while you screw the screws into place.

    • 8). Shut the drawer and latch it. Open the drawer and make sure it holds. Then try and unlatch it. Make any adjustments you need to make.
