How to Mix Primer
- 1). Examine the label on the can of primer to determine the ratio of primer to activator that you need to mix. The ratio is listed as two numbers; the first the amount of primer, with the second being the amount of activator. For example, a ratio of 4:1 directs you to mix 4 parts primer to 1 part activator.
- 2). Locate the line in your mixing pail that indicates the amount of primer needed. For a 4-to-1 primer mixing ratio, look for a line marked with a "4." Pour the primer into the mixing pail up to the marked "4" line.
- 3). Find the next "4" line marked on the cup above the first for a 4:1 ratio. Add the activator to the pail until you reach this fill line. If the ratio was 4:2, you'd count up two more "4" fill lines and pour the activator to the second line with a "4" marked above the first. Make sure you use an activator made for the specific primer that you're using.
- 4). Mix the primer with the activator within the pail with a wooden stirring stick. Stir the mixture vigorously until the two liquids are combined. After mixing, the primer is ready for use.
