What is turmeric? Turmeric is a root.
It belongs to ginger family.
It is yellow in colour.
The presence of curcumin in turmeric makes this root important from medicinal point of view.
It is used in various Ayurvedic formulations in India.
From time immemorial, Indian women used turmeric paste as a skin care product.
It has 3% of essential oil and 5% of curcumin.
Apart from its application for skin, it has various other health benefits that will better explain the question - what is turmeric.
It is used for curing burns and bruises.
The turmeric powder is mixed with hot water to make a paste and is applied in the forehead to cure cold and cough.
To cure mouth ulcers, a pinch of turmeric is added to a cup of boiled milk and taken for couple of nights before going to bed.
Since mouth ulcers are the result of stomach disorders and the turmeric has the influence to improve digestion, it is proven to be good for such treatment.
It is used for anti inflammation and considered good for cancer treatment.
It should be avoided during jaundice.
