Diva extraordinaire Pepper MaShay returns with another sassy number sure to excite the masses! This time there are no "pools" or "pride" involved, just a few words on how to turn a lady from a dud into a diva. In the song Pepper sings about the glamour, glitter, fashion, and fame of your local beauty shop where they fix your hair, make-up, and put you in a stunning new outfit.
The Original Electro Illusion Mix is a funky R&B number that in my opinion is a bit too slow for the vocals.
It does however, have some nice instrumentation that most of today's "trendy" R&B lacks. The Kevin Michael Radio Edit is another R&B groover, which has a bassline similar to Naughty By Nature's "Hip Hop Hooray" which seems to work better with the vocals even though the tempo is not increased dramatically. The Supermellow Club Edit is a bit funkier than the other R&B mixes. This mix sounds straight out of the 70's where the lines of R&B and Disco were blurred. The only problem with the mix is that it's a bit tiring as there is not a lot of change in it. It seems to repeat the same sample throughout the mix. Now on to the Dance mixes?.
The Infinite Beat Remix is a nice Trance number perfect for Dance radio or mixshows. It has keyboard sounds reminiscent of mid-90's Hi-Energy songs such as "Another Night" by Real Mc Coy and "Think of You" by Whigfield. DJ Ranny's Radio Edit is quite energetic with it's frantic Tribal bassline. While the mix is a bit repetitive, the sound works well with the song so that it holds your attention throughout the mix.
The Marian Lopez Remix starts off pretty cool with a funky House bassline that sounds like something Daft Punk could have done but then some Tech-House synthesizers kick in which don't really do anything to compliment the mix, which kind of brings it down a notch. The other disappointing thing about this mix is that the chorus doesn't really flow well with the bassline, which removes this as a top-contender for any of my sets.
The Kevin Michael Club Mix is quite different from his Radio Mix. This mix is another Tech-House revision which gets a little sleepy in parts due to the vocals being spread out so far in the mix. I do however, like the laser noise that flow throughout the mix.
Those who enjoyed Pepper's previous hits like "Dive In The Pool" and "I Got My Pride" will most likely love the DJ Nineteen69 "Give Me A Perm" Mix. The mix has some nice upbeat Tribal percussion and really compliments Pepper's vocals. The build-up in the intro really captures attention with some cool whistle sounds layered under Peppers prominent vocals. This mix is a sure floor-filler for the masses!
The DJ Blain Meets Hefty Left Remix is another big-room anthem. The percussion is intense and reminds me of something Superchumbo or Danny Teneglia would put together. Unfortunately, this is another case where the synthesizers do nothing to compliment the mix which inhibits some of its potential. The synthesizers, in my opinion, sound too commercial for the underground-sounding bassline. Speaking of the underground, next up is the Pure Elevation Underground Remix which would make a nice mix for the model runways or drag queen shows. With its sparse vocals and afterhours sound, it's perfect for talk-overs. The Pure Elevation On Da Floor Remix starts out with a bassline similar to Junior Vasquez's remix of Madonna's "Secret." Even the synthesizers are quite similar to the "Secret" remix.
Pepper's vocals are quite prominent in this mix so the instrumentation is a bit minimal and laid back. I can't say that I find this mix horrible but it really does nothing to excite me being that it sounds like it was created in 1993.
While not all of the mixes on this single are top-notch, there is plenty of variety to satisfy just about everyone's taste whether you like R&B, Funk, House, Trance or even the classic Hi-Energy sound.
